Tatras Hound is new breed in process of development. Puppies are in SKJ\/SPZ register with pedigree. They can perform a hunting trials and gain hunting utilization according to hunting law.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n BREEDEND AND AIM.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Current hunting development, especially the structure of the hunting areas and variability of animal species, has strong influence on the demands for hunting dogs and their usage. Actual legislation brings increased demands for the expertise and professionalism, which is partly influenced by population\u00b4s changes among the hunters and so their different demands for a hunting dog. Hunting-grounds with the hoofed animals call for a breeding of the smaller dogs. Their demand for nutrition, care, accommodation and transportation is significantly lower. We expect that this effort will be even increased in the future.<\/p>\n Our breeding aim is to create a new breed of the dog with the most appropriate and approaching performance according to the requirements of hunting nowadays. The best fitting breed is the one characterized by short legged dog of medium (to small) size like \u201cSlovak hound\u201d. This new breed will be unexacting\u00a0 for the space and nutrition ( suitable for hunters living in the city,\u00a0 demanding a minimum space in case of car transport ), relatively easily transmissible with the respect to its size, no major health problems ( especially hereditary diseases ). Taking into consideration the anticipated use in the practice, it should be appropriate to the work as well as hounds and Bavarian mountain hound and could perform all hunting test and exams fitting to these breeds. The working title of the breed is \u201cTatra Hound\u201d.<\/p>\n Model for the external appearance of Tatra Hound is represented by hounds which existed in Slovakia in the last century. Slovak Hound\u00b4s breeders have decided to choose from the palettes of hounds of different type and color to breed moderate size dogs with the black coloring and tan marks. The photographs from the 19th century suggest that there were even hounds of white marks. According to the existing records, such individuals belonged to the selection for Slovak hound breeding in the last century. The model for Tatra Hound is Slovak hound, taking into consideration the origin, desired character and external appearance\u00b4s features. Their outstanding character has been demonstrating since last centuries.<\/p>\n Among the significant positive characteristics belong temperament, relentless desire to work, willingness and interest to follow animal tracks, the volume on the trail and unique courage. These characteristics are continually desired, selected and fastened by breeding. However, because of the actual hunting legislation, the facts mentioned above might be restrictive and limiting factor for using hounds outside of the large forest complexes and small district. In practice, recently there has been a division of a large number of previously large grounds into several smaller and this trend will continue in the near future (signing new contracts, boundary\u00b4s changes in respect of the financial situation). On the other hand, in many hunting grounds with wild boars, the occurrence of common hunts (using Slovak hound, Styrian Coarse-haired Hound) has been recently decreased and individual way of hunting dominates. Consequently, Tatras Hound, new national short legged hound, would find practical application n smaller hunting grounds while maintaining a set of desirable temperament characteristics.<\/p>\n One significant difference between Tatra hound and the others is type of the work during the hunt.\u00a0 Hunt would be characterized by smaller \u201cprocess radius\u201d, which is often the cause why Slovak Hound loose a trail. Tatra hound will have indeed slower but yet persistent, systematic and loud work on the track.\u00a0 New breed would also find its use in the tracing of hoofed animals during the individual method of hunting.<\/p>\n .<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/span><\/p>\n BREEDING OBJECTIVES.<\/strong><\/p>\n Initial breeds used in creating a new form of the national short legged breed (Tatra hound) are Slovak hound and standard dachshund. To achieve desired external appearance and working characteristics, we will use as well other hunting dogs with excellent characteristics. The purpose is to foster its hunting features as a dog tracing hoofed animals. Individuals of these breeds and their cross-breeding relatives\u00a0 are selected for our dog breeding based on strict criteria, taking into consideration predetermined character and external characteristics desired for Tatra Hound. Slovak hound\u00b4s share of genetic information in a targeted breed should be major. While process of breeding, we keep accurate records of adults applied in breeds, as well as bred puppies, including the records of certificates issued (originally from the first generation of a new breed).<\/p>\n The aim is to create a new national breed obtained by cross-breeding of different dog however with a clearly defined and established genetic background. Its use should be oriented in the hunting grounds with smaller area, at the plains and hills, where there are recently concentrated wild boars.<\/p>\n Efforts do not put emphasis to create ideal breed that doesn\u2019t exist. Purpose is to create breed that would provide an opportunity to the widest practical use in the current hunting conditions in our country. We expect Tatras hound will find its place among many internationally recognized breeds dogs because of its qualities.<\/p>\n The aim is to demonstrate to the general public of kynology that even nowadays already recognized breeds (many purebred dogs) can be \u201cin a certain way \u201cadapted to the circumstances of our time. \u00a0 Reasonably, there is space for creation of \u201cnew breed\u201d with possibility of international recognition by the FCI and the subsequent establishment at the scales of existing breeds. The path leading us to this goal is not easy but winding, sometimes full of surprises, costs a lot of effort, knowledge, material and financial resources but it must be linked with enthusiastic people who cannot be discouraged and give up after the first sign of failure. Predpoklad\u00e1me, \u017ee t\u00e1to snaha sa bude do bud\u00facna e\u0161te zv\u00fdraz\u0148ova\u0165.<\/p> Na\u0161im chovate\u013esk\u00fdm z\u00e1merom je vytvori\u0165 nov\u00e9 plemeno psa zodpovedaj\u00face a \u010do najviac sa pribli\u017euj\u00face po\u017eiadavk\u00e1m v\u00fdkonu pr\u00e1va po\u013eovn\u00edctva v s\u00fa\u010dasnej dobe. Uveden\u00fdm po\u017eiadavk\u00e1m sa najviac pribli\u017euje n\u00edzkonoh\u00e9 plemeno duri\u010da strednej a\u017e malej ve\u013ekosti v type slovensk\u00e9ho kopova. P\u00f4jde o plemeno nen\u00e1ro\u010dn\u00e9 na priestor a v\u00fd\u017eivu (vhodn\u00fd aj pre po\u013eovn\u00edkov b\u00fdvaj\u00facich v meste, minim\u00e1lne n\u00e1roky na prepravu autom), pomerne \u013eahko pren\u00e1\u0161ate\u013en\u00e9 s oh\u013eadom na ve\u013ekos\u0165 (transport na posed), odoln\u00e9, bez v\u00fdznamnej\u0161\u00edch zdravotn\u00fdch probl\u00e9mov (najm\u00e4 dedi\u010dn\u00e9 ochorenia). A pr\u00e1ve aj v tak\u00fdchto rev\u00edroch by na\u0161la praktick\u00e9 uplatnenie nov\u00e1 forma n\u00e1rodn\u00e9ho n\u00edzkonoh\u00e9ho plemena duri\u010da pri zachovan\u00ed si uveden\u00fdch \u017eiaducich povahov\u00fdch \u010d\u0155t slovensk\u00e9ho kopova. Jedn\u00fdm z podstatn\u00fdch rozdielov pr\u00e1ce tak\u00e9hoto typu duri\u010da by bol jeho men\u0161\u00ed \u201eak\u010dn\u00fd r\u00e1dius\u201c pri duren\u00ed, ktor\u00fd je \u010dasto pr\u00ed\u010dinou straty a zabehnutia slovensk\u00e9ho kopova \u2013 ide s\u00edce o pomal\u0161ie, ale pritom vytrval\u00e9, systematick\u00e9 a hlasit\u00e9 durenie. Plemeno by na\u0161lo uplatnenie aj pri doh\u013ead\u00e1van\u00ed postrie\u013eanej, najm\u00e4 raticovej zveri, hlavne pri individu\u00e1lnom sp\u00f4sobe po\u013eovania.<\/p> Chovate\u013esk\u00fd cie\u013e<\/b><\/p> V\u00fdchodz\u00edmi plemenami, pou\u017eit\u00fdmi pri vytvoren\u00ed novej formy n\u00e1rodn\u00e9ho n\u00edzkonoh\u00e9ho plemena duri\u010da s\u00fa slovensk\u00fd kopov a jazve\u010d\u00edk \u0161tandardn\u00fd. Na dosiahnutie po\u017eadovan\u00fdch exteri\u00e9rov\u00fdch a pracovn\u00fdch vlastnost\u00ed bud\u00fa pou\u017eit\u00e9 i \u010fal\u0161ie po\u013eovn\u00e9 plemen\u00e1 psov. Pou\u017eit\u00e9 bud\u00fa iba plemen\u00e1 posil\u0148uj\u00face jeho vlastnosti duri\u010da a psa na doh\u013ead\u00e1vanie raticovej zveri . Jedince t\u00fdchto plemien, ako aj ich medziplemenn\u00e9 kr\u00ed\u017eence s\u00fa do chovu vyberan\u00e9 na z\u00e1klade pr\u00edsnych krit\u00e9ri\u00ed, zoh\u013ead\u0148uj\u00facich vopred ur\u010den\u00e9 povahov\u00e9 a exteri\u00e9rov\u00e9 charakteristiky plemena tatransk\u00fd duri\u010d. Podiel genetick\u00fdch inform\u00e1ci\u00ed SK v cielenom plemene by mal preva\u017eova\u0165. Pri chove sa vedie presn\u00e1 evidencia dospel\u00fdch jedincov uplatnen\u00fdch v chove, ako aj odchovan\u00fdch \u0161teniat, vr\u00e1tane vystavenia preukazov o p\u00f4vode od prvej gener\u00e1cie chovu nov\u00e9ho plemena.<\/p> Z\u00e1merom chovate\u013eskej pr\u00e1ce je vytvorenie nov\u00e9ho plemena, z\u00edskan\u00e9ho kr\u00ed\u017een\u00edm r\u00f4znych plemien s jasne definovanou a ust\u00e1lenou genetickou v\u00fdbavou. \nSection 2 Leash (scent) Hounds
\nBRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY:<\/strong> Hounds, used for hunting game in the mountain regions of Slovakia, have been bred in the country since long ago. Out of these dogs of different types and sizes, a medium sized hound was chosen in the 30s of the 20th century and after a long selection process it was approved as the Slovak Hound (slovensk\u00fd kopov). Despite many years of selection, there are sometimes puppies of smaller size or a different color in the litters of the Slovak Hound. These were used as a base for creating a hound of smaller size. To enlarge the breeding stock base and to avoid close inbreeding in the first steps of breeding, dogs of other breeds were used, also improving the scent abilities in this breed.<\/p>\n
\nTatra Hound is a smaller sized breed up to 42 cm in height at withers. The body shape is rectangular, with the ratio of height at withers to the body length being 1:1,25 \/males\/ to 1:1,3 \/females\/. For better working abilities the distance between ribcage and ground is important and it should equal \u00bd of the height at withers.<\/p>\n
\nIntelligent, full of temperament, easy to handle, balanced in character, no signs of aggressiveness or fear of his surroundings. Friendly with people. Despite his friendly character, he is eager to work and brave in contact with game. Persistent in his work with a great sense of smell and orientation in the field.<\/p>\n

\nCRANIAL REGION:
\n<\/strong>Skull: Accordingly wide, slightly rounded top skull with a slightly marked occipital protuberance. Significant superciliary ridges.
\nStop: well marked. Divides the upper line of head to two parts of approximately same length.
\n
\nFACIAL REGION:<\/strong>
\nMuzzle: Approximately same length as skull. Seen from the side, cannot be square in shape. Symmetrically tapering towards the nose, neither too pointed when looked from the side, nor wedge shaped when looked from above. Bridge of nose straight or slightly convex. \u2028Nose: Sufficient in size, dark in color.
\nLips: Well covering the lower jaw, well marked lip corners. Seen from the side, lips make a shape of a distinct curve from the lip corner to the nose.
\nJaw\/Teeth: Well developed teeth. Incisors well set into the jaw, forming a full curve. Scissor bite. Missing M3 are disregarded.
\nCheeks: Full, with well developed muscles.
\nEyes: Dark brown or brown, adequate in size, almond in shape. Neither protruding, nor set too deep. \u2028Ears: Medium to long in length, reaching to the tip of the nose. Wider set above the level of eyes. Not too narrow, well rounded. Without folds, hanging loose close to the cheeks.
\n
\nNECK:<\/strong> Medium length, well muscled, without skin folds. Lower set into the shoulders with a smooth transition to the topline.
\n
\nBODY:
\n<\/strong>Topline: firm, level or slightly sloping from withers to root of tail. Withers slightly pronounced, back strong and resilient.
\nWithers: not too pronounced, smoothly passing to the back
\nBack: Firm, resilient, very well muscled. Medium length, straight.
\nCroup: Broad, sufficiently long, slightly rounded. Loin of good length, well muscled, smoothly continuing to the croup. Croup sufficiently long, slightly sloping with a smooth transition to the tail.
\nChest: not too wide, sufficiently deep. To keep up with the excellent working attitude of the breed it is not desirable to have a too deep chest. But it is spacious, ribs well rounded, flexible, set slanting. Well developed forechest.
\nUnderline and belly: Underline slightly tucked up. Loins well developed, not too tucked up.
\n
\nTAIL:\u2028<\/strong>Sufficiently thick and long. Reaching to the hock joint. Set slightly under or in the level of topline. Straight or slightly saber like.<\/p>\n

\nFOREQUARTERS:<\/strong> straight when looked from both front and from the sides
\nShoulder: Well muscled. Shoulder blade sufficiently laid back, well connected to the ribcage. Good angle between the shoulder blade and upper arm.
\nUpper arm: sufficiently long with a good angulation between the shoulder blade and upper arm letting the dog reach well without getting tired. Well muscled..
\nElbow: loose, neither too close to the ribcage, nor too far.
\nForearm: long, upright, well muscled\u2028Wrist: strong, smooth.
\nPastern: slightly sloping, never steep.
\nForefoot: well arched with tight toes. Nails and pads are dark. Pads are thick and firm.
\n
\nHINDQUARTERS:<\/strong> well angulated when viewed from the side, straight when viewed from behind\u2028.
\nThigh: sufficiently long, wide and very well muscled\u2028.
\nStifle: strong, tight. Angulation in the stifle and hock joint approximately equal.
\nLower thigh: sufficiently long, well muscled\u2028.
\nHock joint: tight, smooth and strong\u2028Rear pastern: sinewy, upright when viewed both from the side and from behind.
\nHind foot: very well arched and closed. Without dewclaws. Same shape as forefoot.
\n
\nGAIT \/ MOVEMENT:<\/strong> smooth and generous in all types of movement. While trotting, the topline is level and the movement of body is elegant. Both front and hind legs are parallel when in action. The most typical movement while working is trot.
\n
\nSKIN:<\/strong> of medium thickness, elastic, no wrinkles. Well pigmented.
\n
\nCOAT:<\/strong> coarse, close fitting, with sufficient shine. Shorter and softer on the head and limbs.
\nColor: The Tatra Hound can be found in two color varieties:\u2028Black and tan \u2013 black color with exactly bounded tan or reddish markings on head, above the eyes, on the sides of muzzle and lips, on the chest and limbs, around the anus, on the lower side of tail. White markings on chest and limbs are acceptable, also a white spot on the top of the head. On the limbs between the white and the black coat there is some tan coat in between (heritage from old type hounds). \u2028Brown \u2013 solid colored brown. The shades vary from light tan to deer red. All with some mixture of black. A black mask on the foreface is sought after, but it is acceptable also without.
\n
\nSIZE<\/strong>: \u2028Height at withers: Females: 34 \u2013 38 cm\u2028 Males: 37 \u2013 42 cm

\nFAULTS:<\/strong> Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.

\nToo big or too small dogs or bitches in the relation to the standard size
\nPoor or absent tan markings in the black and tan colored dogs or bitches
\nToo light brown coloring
\nHeavy individuals, lacking elegance.
